Every Goodbye – Danny Wilde (1988)

Song from Danny Wilde’s earlier solo days before he formed The Rembrandts, duo with Phil Solem best known for their ‘I’ll Be There For You’   theme song for the TV sitcom FRIENDS.  From his second release Any Man’s Hunger, ‘Every Goodbye’ represents what I enjoy most about Wilde as a singer-songwriter – well-crafted songs, guitar melodies, and emotional vocals. Melodic guitar notes against a simple bass and drum rhythm create the perfect instrumentation backdrop for Wilde’s vocals about love gone south and create a musical feel that it is all slipping away. The line ‘And here comes the rain’  leading into the songs exit captures the inevitable message – it’s over and there is not too much I can do about it. Great singer-songwriters paint a picture with words and music. A masterful breakup song by Mr Wilde. Recommended listening for if  pieces of your heart are falling to the ground.
